Flannel Board Song P-I-Z-Z-A (tune: BINGO)
Submitted by: Iris Kaneshige, McCully-Moiliili Public Library
Suggested age: Toddlers and Preschoolers
Book: Hi, Pizza Man by Virginia Walter
This is a food-themed project. The book is about pizza as well as different animals and the sounds they make. The extension activity is a great way to develop letter recognition as well as number recognition.

I had a pizza big and round
And all of it was mine-o!
P-I-Z-Z-A, P-I-Z-Z-A, P-I-Z-Z-A
And all of it was mine-o!
I had a pizza that I shared
One piece went to my brother
P-I-Z-Z-A…
But the rest was mine-o!
(REPEAT WITH SISTER, MOTHER, FATHER)
I had a pizza that I shared
One piece is all I’m left-o
P-I-Z-Z-A…
And now that piece is gone-o!
You can point to each letter as you sing it to encourage letter recognition.
The pizza is cut into 5 pieces to accompany the song.
In between each verse as you take away one slice, you can ask the children how many pieces are left to develop their counting skills.
