Things That Go (tune: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star & Where is Thumbkin?)

Submitted by: Iris Kaneshige, McCully-Moiliili Public Library
Suggested age: Toddlers and Preschoolers
Book: Fire Truck by Peter Sis and Red Light, Green Light by Anastasia Suen, and Go! Go! Go! Stop! By Charise Mericle Harper

This is a “things that go” themed project. It is a great way to learn the relationship between printed word and the object it identifies.

Twinkle twinkle traffic light
Round the corner shining bright

Red means stop
Green means go
Yellow means go very slow

Twinkle twinkle traffic light
Round the corner shining bright

Used with the song above, the traffic light graphic is a way to introduce color recognition as well as positional and directional words such as top, middle, bottom.

Where is pick-up truck
Where is pick-up truck
Here I am
Here I am
How are you today, sir?
Very well I thank you
Drive away
Drive away

When singing this song, put hands behind your back and have appropriate truck in each hand.

Each truck stick is double sided where one side is facing toward each other and one side is facing outward.
